The method of voting

This time voting took a bit more time than expected, because it wasn't an easy choice. But here we are, after two weeks after closing submissions we have the results. The best works were evaluated in the following way:

1. We sent a complete folder with works (including WIPs) to judges. We also included a file with works descriptions, so they could read about the mindset behind work of an artist.

2. Each judge had to choose 6 works and assign them to 3 places and 3 awards. Points have been assigned to each place:

  • 1st place: 10 points
  • 2nd place: 8 points
  • 3rd place: 6 points
  • 1st award: 4 points
  • 2nd award: 2 points
  • 3rd award: 1 points

Then we added points from each judge and got first results.

Two of the works got the same amount of points, so we asked judges for play-off. And that's how we got the final results! After counting all points from all judges the results are...

1st place - Misty Chicago (by Mohit Sanchaniya)

nr_00907_01_misty_chicago

Kuba Dąbrowski: I really like everything about this work, composition, colors, excellent texturing and many small details. Very realistic depiction of a misty atmosphere in a city.

Hrvoje Cop: I believe this work is spot on in all segments, from composition and mood, to modeling and materials. Well designed and beautifully executed.

Mohit Sanchaniya will receive prizes:

2nd place - On the Top of the City (by Peter Sivi)

nr_00904_02_top_of_the_city

Kuba Dąbrowski: I love the use of fish-eye lens, it creates this cool angles and a bit unusual look of the city. Combined with the city lights and vehicle light trails, it makes the scene dynamic.

Hrvoje Cop: Great concept and mood. I just found the camera right above the main character a bit weird. Perhaps if we were looking from the character's actual perspective it would be more natural, but perhaps not. I love the light trails, but I wish the streetcars were in motion as well, which would help sell the shot.

Peter Sivi will receive prizes:

  • €750 in cash from Evermotion
  • 5 Evermotion collections of winner's choice
  • V-Ray license for 1 year
  • Corona Renderer license for 1 years

  • 1-year Substance indie license

3rd place - Cobweb (by Oleg Lutsik)

nr_00905_03_cobweb

Kuba Dąbrowski: Commieblocks are depressing but it seems they can look beautiful sometimes. Amazing atmosphere of a freezing winter morning.

Hrvoje Cop: The spider web of power lines is beautifully executed, and visually very interesting. I also like the subtle fog, and the little details in the far areas, like the train and construction site. What I think could be improved is the fact the sky is so burned out on the left - I would have loved to see more detail in the sky, and also the foreground plan on the right hand side, which could have used something interesting on the large area of snow.

Oleg Lutsik will receive prizes:

  • €500 in cash from Evermotion
  • 5 Evermotion collections of winner's choice
  • V-Ray license for 1 year
  • Corona Renderer license for 6 months
  • Forest Pack or RailClone 1 year subscription
  • textures.com - credit pack with 1000 credits
  • Multiscatter license
  • TopoGun license
  • Garagefarm credits for $200
  • Renderbuzz 6300 renderpoints
  • Fox RenderFarm credits worth €200
  • Rebusfarm 200 RenderPoints worth 200 Euro
  • ANIMA PRO LICENSE + 1 Rigged character pack
  • RDT-COLLECTION 4 from rd-textures.com (indi-license)
  • 1-year Substance indie license

1st award - After the flood: Miami (by Jake Williams)

04_flood

Kuba Dąbrowski: Cool idea of a futuristic flooded cityscape I love the sunken highways. Work could use some more detail/variance in texturing and shading.

Hrvoje Cop: Cool idea! The sunken highways look great and there's a crazy amount of detail all around. With some weathering on the buildings it would be even better. Maybe some more atmospheric lighting would make the whole scene even more interesting.

Jake Williams will receive prizes:

  • 1 Evermotion collection
  • textures.com - credit pack with 500 credits
  • TopoGun license
  • Garagefarm credits for $165
  • Renderbuzz 4200 renderpoints
  • 1-year Substance indie license

2nd award - A Day In The City (by Todor Vladev)

nr_00906_05_Day_In_The_City

Hrvoje Cop: Who doesn't like robot construction workers? Some cool modeling and texturing here, and I like the distopian undertone to the image. Composition-wise, something bothers me with how this shot is framed, but I had trouble pinpointing what exactly. But a very solid work nonetheless.

Todor Vladev will receive prizes:

  • 1 Evermotion collection
  • textures.com - credit pack with 500 credits
  • TopoGun license
  • Garagefarm credits for $165
  • Renderbuzz 4200 renderpoints
  • 1-year Substance indie license

3rd award - Shapes at the park (by Vittorio Bonapace)

06_shapes

Hrvoje Cop: I think this is a very nice image all around. There's a hint of a story with the kid and his kite, and it serves well in setting the mood. The foreground is very good, but I think some more detail and depth in the background would greatly improve the overall feel.

Vittorio Bonapace will receive prizes:

  • 1 Evermotion collection
  • textures.com - credit pack with 500 credits
  • TopoGun license
  • Garagefarm credits for $165
  • Renderbuzz 4200 renderpoints
  • 1-year Substance indie license
