This landscape is mix between two major traditions over my country: Mexico; one of them being the famouse "festival del globo" held down Leon city, in where several hot air ballons take off into the sky creating astonishing visuals. From this concept I took out the hot air ballons and used instead the infamous "globos de cantolla" or sky lanterns which I love too and are a major issue in México. Then I took into consideration another national tradition: "dia de muertos" held all over the country but with special focus on "patzcuaro" which is a small island down Mexico, every november hundreds of little boats sail from the shore with food, flowers, candles and everything that your loved one used to like back at earth. It might not be a real place nor real moment in time but it depicts two of my beloved and favourite national traditions. Done with several softwares: the sky lantern geometry was made within Sketchup since I really like this soft and it's easier for me; the UV unwrapping I made it in 3dsMax despite being able to do it too in Sketchup; then I used substance painter to create a proper sky lantern texture since the paper joints should be "visible" until some extent; from there I only used UE4, for creating the sky lantern and fireflies particles systems, grass was taken from the soft free content and added some from 3dwarehouse too. The little girl was added with photoshop, despite UE being capable of integrating people I simply did not want to do so, maybe because I have been using UE for 2 months only and not being able to invest more time in this challenge. I had a lot of fun, learning tons of stuff, and I am happy with the results.
