AMD released yesterday 3rd generation Ryzen desktop processor family based on its "Zen 2" microarchitecture. AMD started to chase Intel since introduction of Zen architecture in 2017. since then we got slightly updated Zen+ and yesterday, finally we saw the premiere of Zen 2 processors. This time AMD made a product line that can not only compete with Intel counterparts but also provide much higher performance in some special multithreading tasks like rendering, light baking, video and photo editing and more!
Let's look at Ryzen 3900x - current top of the line, with it's 12 cores and 24 threads (in September there will be even more powerful ryzen processor - Ryzen 3950x, offering 16 cores and 32 threads!). How good is it in rendering?
Pretty well! The fastest Ryzen outperforms i9-9900K significantly, and even cheaper Ryzen 3700x is faster than Intel processors. This massive advantage is possible thanks to bigger core count of Ryzens. When we compare single core speeds, we will see that new Ryzens are comparable to i9-9900K.
The results above are great, in CineBench R15, tests performed by AnandTech show about 8 percent of advantage of i9-9900K processor (Ryzen 3900X: 204 points, i9-9900K: 216 points), so the results vary from test to test and are more favorable for Intel when it comes to CineBench R15. Ryzen 9 3900X wins in all multi-threaded tests performed with CineBench.
According to TechPowerUp results, Ryzen 3900X excels in Light baking in Unreal (baking took 210 seconds vs 256 seconds on i9-9900K). Also Ryzen 3700X is faster in this test than Intel (250 seconds).
Ryzen 3900X had turned to be the fastest CPU for rendering in Blender. BMW benchmark scene was rendered in 156 seconds, compared to 250 seconds on i9-9900K which is stunning!
Ryzen won also in TechSpot's Blender Open Data benchmark, scoring higher than all Intel consumer CPUs and even higher than Threadripper:
Blender Open Data render time:
Corona Renderer 4 is purely CPU rendering, fast processor is a key to achieve short rendering times. Ryzen sets new record for consumer CPUS here too!
All tests performed by tech portals show that Ryzen 3900X is a great solution for cg artists rendering in Corona. It gained 6,79 million of rays per second.

AMD Ryzen 3900X wins with I9-9900K also in V-ray Benchmark (score) :
