In this 3d modeling tutorial we'll take an in-depth look at the problems with Ngons to answer the question: are Ngons really that evil?

Typical problems with ngons that are listed by their opponents are:

  • Rendering / shading issues
  • Limited use of subdivision surfaces
  • Bad looking wireframe
  • Problems with deformations
  • Problems with edge flow and retopology
  • Interoperability

But even with these issues it doesn't mean that ngons are totally unusable. We don't always need to deform surface or subdivide it, they are great during booleand operations, with some knowledge they are easily managable during modeling process. So how to properly use ngons?
