Rendering of Vintage Mercedes-Benz

Rendering of Vintage Mercedes-Benz

Jeff Patton 2017-06-01 09:12 tutorial  > 3ds MAX  > rendering

Jeff Patton shows how he created this outstanding render with FStorm.

The 1930 Mercedes-Benz SS Roadster model is from iljujjkin at turbosquid.com:
https://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3ds-mercedes-benz-ss-roadster-1930/641235

Jeff converted the materials over to FStorm and lit it with a HDRI (environment direct lighting enabled).

The Forest Pro scattered grass objects (https://gumroad.com/l/DAMA01) were setup as FStorm instances (right click on object and use FStorm object properties).

Jeff enabled the depth of field effect, assigned a LUT file and rendered away.  The updated bokeh/dof that FStorm creates is quite nice.

Overall it's a very simple configuration yet still creates some nice looking renders.

The scene uses a free HDRI (05-20_Park_D.hdr) from NoEmotion HDRs.  You can use your own existing .HDR/.EXR or this one by downloading from:
