A few months ago we helped our favourite customers from Blank Architects in making a concert hall visualisation for a cool European contest in Lithuanian Kaunas: KAUNAS M.K. CIURLIONIS CONCERT CENTRE, INTERNATIONAL DESIGN CONTEST How can anyone NOT love European contests? Beautiful architecture and a great number of happy people surrounded by nature and the old city atmosphere. The task looked like a dream: unusual shots everywhere, different time of the day, a lot of beautiful people, not a single apartment complex or shopping mall, only evening dresses, plays, air balloons, mist and a warm evening relaxing atmosphere. According to the project, the building will be situated on the river bank and near the water and the architects wanted to express closeness of the concert hall to nature, that’s why we placed a lot of birds on the visualisation. 194683 194684 194685 194686 194687 The architects told us that when they went to see the place and take photos of the surroundings, they had a feeling of being inside the visualisation that came into life. At that moment there was an Air Balloon Show, children were running around and fishermen were fishing on the river bank. Such happy and filled with characters moments always seem an exaggeration, but not for this place. Glass facade of the building almost melts into the sky, it doesn’t look massive, it merges with the landscape. As we know, good glass helps to reach this effect in reality. These glass facades offer a great view from foyer and halls of the river and the city. 194691 194690 194689 194688 194692 Large halls have always been a challenge to visualise - hundreds of places need to be filled by people to show how it will look like at the event, to create the right atmosphere. We used the built- in 3ds Max Populate function to place low-poly 3D people. Such people can not be put directly in front of the camera, but on distant plans they look great. All the major characters we place manually. The proper backlighting on them is done in Photoshop, applying filters at once to a number of layers. On visualisations, we showed how the same room will look like during a concert of classical music and during a rock concert. To get a soft morning light on the autumn visualisation we use Global volume material in Corona Renderer. It makes this «fog effect», of aerial perspective and volumetric light. Kaunas is declared the 2022 European Cultural Capital. The city regularly hosts international music festivals, but there is still no modern and suitable place for them. The main objective of the contest was to offer a project of a multifunctional public center. The building should become one of the symbols of the city, a cultural platform not only for concerts, but also for various performances, conferences and exhibitions of contemporary art. The competition is already completed, 117 architectural teams from 36 countries took part in it. The finalists were the participants from Lithuania and England, but of course most of all we like the Blank Architects competitive project) -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- - Visualisation made by: Rostislav Nikolayev Andrey Vologzhin Anna Leksina Narek Gabazyan Evgeny Gusmanov
