I used to render with mental ray but thince i've started vray i never return on mr, especially for architecture. I'm planning to work with renderman too but not for archi.

Arnold (C4DtoA) by Autodesk. Arnold is best known for being the built-in renderer for Autodesk 3D applications. It's also been used in film production for over fifteen years. This renderer has been built around rock-solid features and uncompromised quality.

For architecture you can't beat Vray. Maxwell is a great allrounder. For CGI Renderman and Arnold have been great but there are so many amazing in house bespoke tools out there it's hard to keep up. A lot of automated solutions like Lumion and twinmotion produce okay results but for my work in architecture, they still have a long way to go before they produce the quality Vray does.
