Summer in the City - Boardwalk

This looks like a fun challenge! My concept is to visualize a summer day on a boardwalk as father and son enjoy a walk and some ice cream.

I have done a preliminary sketch to figure out the camera angle and rough composition. Also I have found some references for elements I wish to illustrate, and overall mood for the image. Next step is to start roughing out the models. I look forward to it!

    Camera Preview

I have started to rough out the model, and set up a camera view. The cylinders are just stand in geometry to represent a rough height for the people.

Originally I had planned to do a day shot, but I have decided to go for a night shot to really play up the exterior lighting from the park and shops that lead your eye down to the Ferris wheel.

Next step will be detailing the model and start lighting the scene.

hi BRIAN, its a nice composition but night shot wouldn't portray a summer feel.. just a suggestion. since the theme is summer in the city.

Hi cgdigi, thanks for the suggestion but I think I am going to stick with a night shot. I think it will be more fun with the lights and neon. And it can still be a summer night in the city

I've started to model out some entourage, and put some lights up. I've got a couple more of the close buildings to model out, then I will be texturing and lighting the scene. I plan to keep the distant buildings fairly low poly and make use of textures for those.

    Software used:
    3ds Max
    Vray
    Photoshop
    Nuke

The models were built from scratch other than the bench and background buildings. I used a bunch of photo references for the close buildings and entourage. I didn't get as far along with the concept as I would have liked, but I had a fun time working on this scene. I hope to finish it with the people and signage, because right now that is missing.

Hi M.Alrayes, thanks for the reply. You've got some nice work as well. This environment was based on actual boardwalks that were used as my main photo reference. I am sure there are plenty of cg carnival and boardwalk images out there, but I would only look to as inspiration. Your work is nice, thanks for sharing.
