A Day with Summer by Peter Ang (Summer in the City Challenge 2014)

My concept for the Summer in the City Challenge would be a
an interior scene of a 1970 print publication's newsroom, where reporters
sit at desks, gather information, and write articles or stories on typewriters.

    --------------------~~~~~~~~~~" A DAY WITH SUMMER "~~~~~~~~~~~~---------------------

Is a story about Ben's daydreaming at work, He's a junior reporter who works 10hrs a day from monday to saturday
and sometimes on Sundays if needed. He's a very hardworking employee just like his other colleagues.
But everyday on summer season when the heat of the sun hits his desk he always daydream about the white
sand on the beaches or nice places to unwind and get away from stress. But then again its just an everyday question
for Ben, if when..... when can he have the chance to have a Day with Summer...

Objective for this contest is to make the audience feel the heat of the sun inside of a busy office.
Although this image is a little surreal, it shows the boredom of too much work and longingness
for a vacation because sometimes people work too hard and worry a lot, that they forgot
that there is more life out there than just work and problems.

Thanks to all have comment and appreciated my work, and good luck to all! ^_^

Additional camera angles to tell more about the story of the image, even though this is not included for the final entry,
it's worth doing it for a personal portfolio

My concept for the Summer in the City Challenge would be a little bit different,
The scene would be an interior of a print publication's newsroom, reporters sit at desks, gather
information, and write articles or stories in the past on typewriters,
The main shot would be focus on Ben's desk. He's a reporter,
who work so hard and so dedicated on his job to get a promotion.
He works 10hrs a day from monday to saturday and sometimes on Sundays if needed.
The elements on the Ben's workstation would portray his longingness for a summer vacation.

so here's the lighting direction that I'm going for this image, and this camera angle will be use for the final entry, but I'll be adding up 4 more cameras to give some idea on how messy is the newsroom.

for the sand under the chair, i use zbrush in sculpting the form, its more faster that way than paint deformation in 3dsmax, after sculpting I then add some multiscatter on the sand with four different small sand rocks all are converted to vray proxy, I also use a masking texture so i can manipulate the way the sand goes around my scene. It's very helpful since it has some fall offs it adds natural look to the scattering of the sand.

now im adding sand details to the chair and other elements. I use advanced painter so I can manipulate more on how the sand spread to some parts of the objects.

hi there - I think it all looks pretty impressive, the attention and detail and work put in, quite incredible

I just wonder though, if the lighting looked 'more summery'? Like shafts of sunlight, maybe with particles in the air - that sort of Pixar Toy Story look...? Maybe? That, with the nice bokeh effects you have, might ping it closer to the theme of the competition...?
