Lukas Stockner has been pumping out cycles features every day and he is kind enough to make Theory Studio new custom builds. In this video the speed comes from a feature that isnt added to Blender master branch yet. It's called "scrambling distance" which instead of changing the noise pattern every sample, keeps it the same and just scoots it over so there is no noise.
Still - it gives many artifacts. In this video Ambient Occlusion is applied after a certain bounce. This feature is in Blender master branch at the moment and it speeds up renders by turning on AO after a certain amount of bounces... In this case it was 1 bounce that's why the glossy doesn't work on the chairs.
