K_2049 is a meditative virtual space inspired by Wallace's room in Blade Runner 2049, directed by Denis Villeneuve and beautifully lit by cinematographer, Roger Deakins. The perfect getaway of the near future will be accessible by virtual reality headset, and not just a simulacra of a real place like a beautiful beach, but of spaces that could never exist in the real world. Thus, K_2049 is a virtual refuge detached from corporeal reality. Its architecture is composed of a mega-scale pyramid, open to the sky above. Its skylight portal rains cherry blossoms upon a sculpture of Rodin. Next to it, a polished, black marble sphere creates a single point in space that simultaneously captures and reflects its surroundings. The platform in the center offers an architecture of security, surrounding the space of contemplation with a moat that bounces the skylight's light beams to create a beautiful pattern of water caustics upon the walls of the great pyramid. The atmospheric and surreal qualities of this getaway transcend the limits of the physical world.
