Dynamic tree rig, developed in Softimage ICE, using Syflex, lots of strands, and a whole bunch of custom compounds.

Tim Woods made a dynamic rig of Evermotion trees. Excerpt from his comment:

I should probably do a more detailed run through of the setup, In a nut shell, the trunk is Syflex, then there are several layers of branches with syflex, attached to the trunk. Then comes the fun part. Take the geo, find patterns of point order to extrapolate the twigs, and leaves. Build orientation matrix from the points and make strands with dynamics for every twig, attach the leaves using the same method of strands. Add strand dynamics and away you go!
