TenPix Cloth brings GPU-accelerated fabric simulation to 3ds Max

TenPix Cloth brings GPU-accelerated fabric simulation to 3ds Max

Evermotion 2026-10-29 09:51 article  > All

TenPix Cloth, a new GPU-powered cloth simulation plugin for 3ds Max 2024–2027, launched October 2026 with 20 modifiers and a $150 introductory price. The tool requires NVIDIA RTX cards and includes features for collision, tearing, seams, and thread simulation.

TenPix Cloth, a GPU-accelerated cloth simulation plugin for 3ds Max, launched on October 28, 2026, filling a workflow gap for architects and interior visualization artists working with fabric-heavy scenes. Developed by Alireza Akhbariarabani, the tool works as a modifier stack and is available for 3ds Max 2024–2027 at a launch price of $150 USD (regular price $200 after December 31, 2026).

The plugin requires an NVIDIA RTX graphics card (RTX 20-series to RTX 50-series) to run its GPU solver. A free trial is available, limited to 25,000 vertices over 100 frames - enough to test workflow integration and performance on smaller assets or excerpts from larger scenes.

TenPix Cloth includes 20 modifiers covering core simulation needs: GPU solver, true-geometry collision, self-collision, fabric materials, pins, seams and tearing, and thread simulation. Deadline render farm integration is built in, allowing studios to offload cloth bakes to render nodes. The feature set addresses detail work common in interior archviz - draping fabric, upholstered furniture, and cloth behavior under gravity and wind.

What this means for 3ds Max archviz studios

Native cloth simulation in 3ds Max has long trailed behind other platforms, forcing studios to either use third-party CPU solvers or bake cloth in external engines. GPU acceleration should reduce iteration time on fabric-intensive projects by offloading computation to the graphics card, compared to CPU-bound solvers. For studios already invested in NVIDIA RTX hardware, the $150 entry cost is modest against the time saved on complex interiors.

The self-collision and tearing modifiers matter for detail shots where fabric behavior is visible - a couch throw, heavy drapes, or layered upholstery need convincing folds and wear. Seam and thread simulation add realism to stitched details. Deadline integration keeps bakes in the studio's existing render pipeline.

The RTX requirement and $150–$200 price are practical considerations for budgeting. Studios using older NVIDIA cards or AMD GPUs will need to evaluate alternatives or upgrade hardware. For those already running RTX 20-series or newer, TenPix Cloth offers a direct path to faster cloth work without leaving Max. Independent performance benchmarks and comparative data against existing solvers are not yet available.
