THE LUPANAR

Editors' choice award

Perched in the heart of the Nevada desert, Le Lupanar is a 40-meter diameter cylindrical monolith suspended by magnetic levitation—a sanctuary of technological lust orchestrated by an AI named Harmonie. Within this symbiotic ecosystem, a swarm of drones called the Abeilles relentlessly harvest enzymes from genetically modified cacti, saturating the twilight air with a toxic green mist to provide the organic matter necessary for creation. Each night, for a single privileged guest, the AI purifies the space by "burning" previous tissues before analyzing the visitor's psyche via a neural headset: it then draws from a global genetic database to 3D-print a flesh-and-blood avatar, simply named Ava, embodying their ultimate desire. Once the cylinder hermetically seals, the architecture becomes the stage for an ephemeral embrace between human and algorithm, sealing an organic dream born from code, the labor of the Abeilles, and the desert dust.
