Autom8Labs, an Autodesk Authorized Developer, has released 22 free MCP Skills for AI agents working across nine AEC applications: Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Grasshopper, MicroStation, 3ds Max, Rhino, Civil 3D and Advance Steel. The skills are trained on software best practices and pair with MCP Connectors that link Claude and other AI assistants directly into design software for model automation, data extraction and drawing production.
The majority of the released skills target Revit workflows, covering family creation, scan-to-BIM, model health, structural and MEP coordination, site planning and document control. For parametric design, Grasshopper gets a computational design skill built to construct parametric definitions the way a computational designer would. In 3ds Max, according to Autom8Labs, the skills configure Corona or V-Ray rendering as a visualiser would - setting up lighting and render settings from a project brief without manual intervention.
As James Gray from Autom8Labs puts it: "Giving an AI agent access to a design application doesn't automatically mean it knows the best way to work in it. The MCP Connectors give your AI agent the tools. Skills give it the method." The distinction matters: tools alone don't solve the problem of how to use them well.
Autom8Labs can also build and test custom skills for individual AEC firms, embedding their own templates, standards and sign-off checks into the agent. The 3ds Max MCP Connector supports versions 2022 to 2027.
For archviz studios managing large-scale projects, the 3ds Max and Grasshopper skills cut out repetitive setup work. When a project brief arrives, an AI agent trained on your studio's render templates can configure Corona or V-Ray lighting and output passes without the visualiser rebuilding the scene. Similarly, parametric definitions can be built from design intent without manual modelling, letting the team spend time on quality and client feedback rather than configuration.
Custom skills let studios go further: bake your own render templates, asset standards, and per-project checks into the agent, so each new job carries your production logic from the start. This reduces both initial setup time and rework cycles when clients iterate on renders or parametric geometry needs to shift to meet updated briefs.
