V-Ray for Blender 7.4 gains ARM64 support, ocean textures, and faster light workflows

V-Ray for Blender 7.4 gains ARM64 support, ocean textures, and faster light workflows

Evermotion 2026-10-15 13:41 article  > All

Chaos released V-Ray for Blender 7.4 with Windows ARM64 compatibility, Phoenix Ocean textures for exterior scenes, Quick Sun Caustics for realistic lighting, and tools to organize large asset libraries and migrate from Blender's native renderer.

Chaos released V-Ray for Blender Update 4 (version 7.40.00) on July 16, 2026, according to the official Chaos forums. The update adds Windows ARM64 support, a Phoenix Ocean texture for procedural water surfaces, and several workflow tools aimed at speeding up scene setup and asset management for architectural visualization work.

The new Quick Sun Caustics system generates realistic caustic lighting effects - useful for exterior renders where water or glass creates moving light patterns on surfaces. The update also includes a Cycles-to-V-Ray light converter, allowing artists migrating from Blender's native renderer to port their lighting setups without rebuilding from scratch. V-Ray for Blender 7.4 now supports Blender 5.2, and adds UDIM support and compatibility with Blender's Holdout shader for compositing workflows.

Asset management gets attention too. The Material Manager now includes a Categories feature for organizing materials into custom folders, and thumbnails now appear in the V-Ray Shader Editor so you can identify nodes at a glance. Chaos Cosmos assets can now be placed with variations, expanding procedural placement options without manual duplication.

ARM64 and asset pipeline streamlining for Blender studios

Windows ARM64 support removes a pain point for studios working on ARM-based systems - primarily newer Apple Silicon Macs or ARM Windows machines - where V-Ray previously required emulation overhead. Native compilation means faster render startup and more predictable performance on these platforms.

For teams managing large asset libraries, the Material Manager Categories feature directly simplifies how you deploy Archmodels materials and custom shaders across projects. Instead of a flat list, you can organize materials by room type, material class, or project, cutting the time spent hunting for the right texture or finish during setup.

The Phoenix Ocean texture and Quick Sun Caustics work together on exterior scenes: procedural water surfaces render without external plugins, and caustics light up architectural elements automatically. For studios billing hourly, cutting render setup time on these common archviz scenarios matters to the bottom line. The earlier addition of light directionality controls in V-Ray GPU makes this update part of a broader push toward faster, more automated exterior lighting.
