Unreal lighting results in strange dark shadows

I'm trying to understand why I'm getting splotchy, dark shadows on meshes when I build lighting. I used the the global lightmass settings that were in the purchased project and that helped a bit but did not completely fix the problem. To test the issue I created a simple scene with an evermotion mesh, a plane and a directional light which you can see attached. Rotating the light can also help with the shadows but never removes them completely. This is not limited to the sofa mesh pictured but is happening on all the assets. 192613
