converting CAD based modelings into quadrified polygon based

dear evermotioners I have this project that I'm handed 3D models of industrial product done entirely in Solidworks. When I import the .Step files into my 3D, everything is triangulated and it's very hard to control. I have considered remodeling whole thing but it's gonna take HUGE amount of time. I wonder if there is an easier way to automate the process by translating CAD model into more controllable object in 3D max; preferrably quad polygon based models. maybe by help of 3rd party software?
