Kodamas - Tribute to Miyazaki

As a tribute to Miyazaki I decided to create an image inspired in the forest spirits of the film Princess Mononoke. It took me about a month and a half in my scarce free time. Its actually my first adventure in the Character theme. I modelled everything from scratch using basic primitives in 3d Studio Max and Mudbox. For the Kodamas, when I got to a good base mesh I went to UVLayout to do the UVMaps. After that, I did a very simple rig to do the posing and then exported the posed mesh to work on the details and the textures. I used the same base mesh for all the three kodamas and altered their proportion and size in mudbox. For the trees the workflow was basically the same. I worked several parts individually and managed the need for detail according to the composition that I had determined in a very early stage. I used GW_Ivy to fill the scene with green life. I created different types of leaves with different textures. The render was done in 3d Studio Max 2010 with mental ray and I got to make some experiments with SSS. In the end it was a great experience, I learned a lot in the process and the result is satisfying. I'll apreciate every comment, critiques, tips, etc...

Software: 3d Studio Max, Mental Ray, Mudbox, UV Layout, Photoshop
