    Montecarlo Casinò Lobby.

Go to last page to see final entries.

    Hi all,

my name is Lello, I'm a 3D artist from Florence (Firenze), Italy.
This is my first competition here on Evermotion.
Although I don't consider myself an extreme specialist in interiors, I decided to take part of this challenge.
The idea is to reproduce the main lobby, inside the Casinò of Montecarlo, of which, I have attached a couple of reference pictures.
Picture "ref1.jpg", will be the guide to the final rendering, in terms of perspective view and composition.
I'm going to do this, with some intentional slight differences, mostly in some of the decorations, just to avoid any copyright issues.
I think I will display the roulette table in the foreground, in a reversed position, to have the wheel close to the viewer, as I have shown in the sketch picture.
I work with C4D and will render the scene in Vray.
I already started modeling the basic structure and I will be posting the first wip in a couple of days.

    Hi guys,

here is the first wip, showing the basic structure, plus the 3D rough of the roulette table in the foreground.
I also added a screenshot to show the cameramatch.
I decided to put the table in immediately, because as it will be taking a big portion of the scene, it's necessary to have it in since the beginning, in order to choose the view angle and make the composition of the other elements.
During the next days, I will be working on this project, so other wips will follow shortly...

Before going to have my dinner, I wanted to show some details I have modeled today, such as the openings, the main ledge and the columns.
Tomorrow afternoon I will hopefully post the next step...

    New wips...

    Hi guys,
I had something else that didn't allow me to spend the time I wanted on this project, but finally I was able to add some details above the doors and also on those ledges on the ceiling.
Now I'm modeling the contiguous rooms that will be visible behind the arch and through these doors...
Hope to post the next wips asap...

I noticed that many other members, just post the wips, without explaining what they did...
Maybe images speaks for themselves actually, so here it is:

    Hi guys...
I added some frames, mouldings etc...
Part of these elements, are models coming from an old collections I have for quite long time and I even don't remember the credits for it.
However, those parts coming from this collection, were heavily modified, to match the kind of things I needed here.
Other models, I made them with zbrush, I attached a sample of one of those.
Time is running fast, so I will need to work late at nights, if I want to finish this on time...
In the meanwhile, I'm also starting to make some light and test renders, but I will show this stuff later on...

Hi guys, I decided it's better if I add my comments to each wip, I think it could be useful..., but if you find this stuff boring, just skip it :-)

It's time to add details to the main subject in this scene, the roulette table.
Here you can see the wheel mesh.
As this is not the first roulette table I make, I have used the same wheel I made for a previous table I made a couple of years a go and I also attached a rendering of it, which was made by the C4D advanced render engine, while this scene will be rendered in Vray.
Only the wheel could fit this kind of table, so the other details are to be modeled and here I attached the chips tray.
I'm already working on other pieces, such as those fences and signals standing around the tables, but they are not totally ready yet, so I will post them hopefully tomorrow.

Personally when the main architecture is made, I prefer to also start making some lighting tests, which I'm doing during these days, but to avoid messing up things here, I will show test renders, after all the modeling will be done.

Here I'm showing some more details, such as the chairs, fence and signals that are around the roulette table.
I'm working on texturing as well, but maybe it's better to show textures along with renderings, later on.
Now I'm modeling the big chandeliers...
Then, all modeling will be done and so, I should be able to show some test renders later on this week, or so...

While I'm patiently waiting for the high res renderings to be calculated, I thought it could be good to show some more models details...

Ok, I can't find the time to read all of your comments guys, so please, calm down a bit ...

Anyway, here I'm showing you the lobby, with the complete table and its structures around.
Also, I attached the scene filled with all the tables in place, but I feel the scene it's too much busy this way, so I believe I will take out one or two of those...

The big chandeliers are in very good shape right now, so I hope I will be showing them this evening, or tomorrow.

Just in time to post the chandelier, before going to sleep...
Didn't have the time to place these in the scene, but I will do it tomorrow.
Maybe I will also make a quick render of it.
    Good nite...

Now that all the modeling part is complete, I want to show you an overview of the scene.
It is composed by three large rooms, the main one and two contiguous ones.
As you can see, on the roof of the main room, I made a circular hole, which represent the skylight window, as it is in the real place (see reference ref2.jpg).
You might noyice that the chandeliers position, is not consistent compared to the reference pictures and they are hanging also from the skylight window, which shouldn't be possible, but this was a ponderate choice, because the main intent here, is to achieve a kind of rendering, as much close as possible to the main reference pic ref1.jpg, with same kind of lighting and mood, which is a night time scene, where lighting it's only artificial.
So I preferred placing the chandeliers, in a more harmonic way for our POV, rather than they are in the ref pic.
But I'm thinking to make also a daylight rendering, so using the skylight window and in that case, I will place the chandeliers, as they should.

In a few minutes, I will post a first clay render...

Here is the first clay rendering.
Actually this is made using a combination of artificial and daylight lighting, as I'm still tuning the artificial lighting alone.
However, as I already said in the previous posts, during the last few days, I already made several test renders, partial, regions etc..., with textures as well.
I'm going to make a selection of the most significative ones and I will post them.

I would appreciate some comments and also, any suggestions/tips you guys might have, as several of you are really very expert in interiors renderings and I'm sure I would benefit by your help..., thanks and good night.

Good details, but I don't think you will see sunshine in casino, because it will tell the time of day and casinos dont want you to know the time of day, they just want you to keep on playing. Thats what I heard about casinos, but I don't know about monte-carlo if they allow windows or skylight to be open, so you might think about making this only with interior lights.

Hi Artmak, thanks for your thought about it.
Although I've been working for the casino industry already in a few occasion, I'm not really an expert in casino of real life and so, I'm not even sure if they are open to play during the day...
But in fact, the meaning of the daylight rendering version, was to show the place at a time, when no players or guests would be there.
It's nice to think about this place, for example in the morning, when they are doing the cleaning, or something like that...
However, the final entry rendering, will be the one with interior lights only and I will also add some people in the scene, but I will do it in post.
Thanks very much for your tip, I really appreciate it, as you were just the second one to leave a serious comment...

I wanted to show some wips regarding texturing...
Here I'm posting just a few of them, although any single element needed at least one test, as you know, but if we would post everything, the thrade would become endless and boring I think...
Later on today, I will also show you a selection of some lighting/rendering tests that I made during the last few days...
Any comment/tip or suggestion, would be very much appreciated..., thanks.
