I've modeled in 3ds max.

Time used: 1 hour

here is my entry for the competition. I wanted some kind of nice, not the usual trash bin to be put in a corner, at least this one should get much more space!!!
a little more than one hour in 3ds Max and Vray

Although it looks complex, making this garbage bin and stand took less than 15 minutes to complete. Refining it took a further 30 so about 45 minutes in total. The components are:

Bin Body - a single lathed spline.
Stand - an extruded rectangle.
Supports - two extruded splines.
Bolts - Extruded 6 sided spline polygons.
Timber Strips - Rectangles with rounded corners - arrayed around the bin centre.

My thinking is that if it's a garbage bin, then it should contain some garbage, which is why I included some paper. The software used was 3ds max 2009.

A feature of this trash can is in that, that it is built-in in a sidewalk and counted on pelting of garbage, for example cigarette-ends and jars from under beers.
Modeling time: 40—60 мins.
Software used: 3dMax 2008, V-Ray
